We are recruiting for a Production Manager for our manufacturing client, based in Thorp Arch, Wetherby.
The Production Manager is responsible for overseeing the manufacture of high-quality timber windows, doors, and staircases. The role ensures production targets are met safely, efficiently, and to specification, while maintaining quality standards, managing staff, controlling costs, and driving continuous improvement across the workshop. The position requires extensive experience with CNC machinery, familiarity with Joinery-soft or similar joinery IT systems, and a personality that fits well within a collaborative team environment.
Key Responsibilities
Production & Operations
- Plan, coordinate, and manage daily production of timber windows, doors, and staircases
- Ensure production schedules are met on time and within budget
- Monitor workflow, capacity, and resource allocation to optimise efficiency
- Liaise with design, sales, and installation teams to meet customer requirements
- Ensure accurate interpretation of drawings, specifications, and cutting lists
CNC & IT Systems
- Operate, supervise, and optimise CNC machinery for high-quality timber production
- Use Joinery-soft or similar joinery IT systems for job management, production planning, and tracking
- Ensure accurate data input for materials, labour, and production times
- Support integration between design, CNC output, and workshop processes
- Train and support staff in the effective use of CNC machinery and production software where required
Quality Control
- Maintain high standards of workmanship and finish across all products
- Implement and enforce quality control procedures and inspections
- Address non-conformances, defects, and rework efficiently
- Ensure compliance with relevant building regulations, standards, and certifications
People Management & Team Fit
- Lead, motivate, and supervise workshop staff, including joiners, machinists, and apprentices
- Promote a positive, collaborative, and inclusive team culture
- Ensure team members feel supported and valued while maintaining productivity standards
- Organise training, skills development, and performance reviews
Health, Safety & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with health and safety legislation and company policies
- Carry out risk assessments and method statements for machinery and processes
- Ensure safe operation and maintenance of woodworking machinery
- Promote a strong safety culture within the production team
Materials & Equipment
- Oversee ordering and stock control of timber, ironmongery, and consumables
- Minimise waste and improve material utilisation
- Ensure machinery is properly maintained and coordinate repairs and servicing
Continuous Improvement
- Identify opportunities to improve processes, reduce costs, and increase efficiency
- Support lean manufacturing and best-practice woodworking methods
- Contribute to new product development and production innovation
Skills & Experience
Essential
- Extensive experience with CNC machinery in a timber joinery environment
- Proven experience manufacturing timber windows, doors, and/or staircases
- Experience using Joinery-soft or similar joinery IT / production management systems
- Strong understanding of woodworking machinery and production processes
- Experience managing teams in a workshop or factory environment
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications
- Strong organisational, leadership, and problem-solving skills
- Positive, adaptable personality with the ability to fit well within the team
Desirable
- Experience with bespoke or heritage joinery
- Knowledge of modern manufacturing methods and CNC programming
- Understanding of relevant UK building regulations and quality standards
- Formal qualification in joinery, carpentry, or manufacturing management
